The American Rottweiler Club was established in 1973, and is a member club of the American Kennel Club. Membership is world-wide, although concentrated in the U.S., and is currently in excess of 1400. The stated objectives of the club are:

• To encourage and promote the quality breeding of pure-bred Rottweilers and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection.
• To encourage the organization of independent local Rottweiler Specialty Clubs in those locations where there are sufficient fanciers of the breed to meet the requirements of
• the American Kennel Club
• To urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by The American Rottweiler Club as the only standard of excellence by which Rottweilers shall be judged.
• To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials, and tracking trials.
• To conduct sanctioned matches and specialty shows, obedience trials, and tracking trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club.
